Nuclear waste has been a major challenge for countries which possess technology to produce nuclear weapons or generate power using nuclear fission. Recently scientists have developed a technique to re-use nuclear waste in making extremely long-life batteries. Using nuclear waste as their main power source and diamonds as their heat conducting element, the nuclear Diamond battery can supposedly last up to 28,000 years, an unfathomably long time.
This is very good news for power hungry digital world. The research at the University of Bristol is at early stage. There are some technical challenges which will be overcome in times to come. Stay tuned!!
